Hello and happy Friday!!!

Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This week 15 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

My subject is:

In Ernest Cline's Ready Player One, one of the characters creates a virtual reality world full of his favorite parts of pop culture in his lifetime. There were planets based solely on video games or Dungeons and Dragons quests. There were challenges based on music and movies he loved, and little hidden gems from all his passions hidden all over the place. If you were to create such a world based on things you love, what would it be like?

It was submitted by Climaxed.  Thank you Jenniy!

Here goes:

Ohh…this one is fun and hard all at the same time!

The Jetson's was one of my favorite cartoons growing up. Although I adored Judy's flawless hair and Rosie's loving and funny nature…one of the aspects that I envied on that show was their instant food maker. Right now in my household, meals are becoming an issue. Finding recipes that are not redundant that meet the criteria of low-calorie, no to low-sodium, low Vitamin K, diabetic friendly and STILL somehow delicious has been a struggle over the last couple months. When I get home from my ten-hour day at work the last thing I want to think about is preparing  a dish, I have tried to get my family on board but I normally get a chorus of "I don’t knows". So…if I could just pop in an order for a delectable dish and have it ready in quick minute that would be a lifesaver.

I adore my furry friends. In my virtual reality world, when I am sad or upset I would be comforted not only by my loved ones…but a furry friend but a furry friend that I cannot play with in my regular world. Like Gizmo or a pygmy puff. Sometimes we can find the most comfort in the sweet eyes of compassion of our non-human companions.

Reading makes me happy. Beyond happy. I fall in love with the written word whether it's scary or sad or uplifting and positive. I enjoy reading Nicholas Kristof and King. I can get lost in fantastic fiction or neat nonfiction. I think it would be amazing in my virtual world to have any object I am holding to be able to turn into a book or become a screen for a book that I can read when I am in the mood to devour some words. Think how awesome it would be…cuddling on the couch with a nice warm blankie and you grab a couch cushion and you are thinking how you need a trashy romance novel or a gripping suspense novel and then your cushion magically turns compact size and has a screen where you can read and enjoy an awesome story.

Yes, I am one of those dorky people who say they "Love love!" and squee excitedly when they see a couple get engaged or a fierce friendship between a pair of gals. What I would love in my world is this to be celebrated. Too many times relationships falter and fail….it would be nice if a flower bloomed vibrantly and played some Ani DiFranco or Streisand or a ridiculous purple shooting star raced across the sky in a bright hue signifying that love exists in many forms and that we are surrounded by it.
I love bright colors, random acts of kindness, and art and would enjoy my world to be colored and decorated with the combination of these insane things at inappropriate times. I would imagine a Warhol tacked haphazardly on the back of a bathroom door or a Dali pinned on the inside of a kitchen cabinet. I would be able to pick up an uplifting story of kindness reminding me of the good in the world wherever I go as they would be littered throughout my universe-and always be up to date. And everything would be obnoxious colors. Bright green and fluorescent pink walls paired with too busy patterns mismatching in my house and any buildings I walk into would just rock my socks.
Finally, one of the things I would incorporate in my world is being able to connect with the ones I love and miss instantly. Although our technology is awesome and those we adore are only a phone call, text or instant message away, sometimes a warm, loving, hug is what we need most from those we miss the most. To have a teleporter that would take me to that person would be amazing. Granted, they would have to accept your visit before you just "popped" by.

What would you want in your personally designed world?

  4. You did an amazing job with this! I'm glad you added that last codicil or else it could get a little awkward at times!

  5. There would really be a record shop like in High Fidelity in my world where I would frequent so I could flirt with the neurotic owner and get mixtapes. And there would also be 80s movie marathons monthly at every cinema. Every. Cinema. I think I could dream up a whole universe with different planets based on mashups of everything i ever loved, which is why that book really got me. I loved it and what the guy did with his pop culture favorites. Nostalgia is addictive.

  8. So... you really need to read Ready Player One. Just saying. It's amazeballs.

I don't think many people would like to live in my personally designed world... it would be scary. ;)
